Old Bunny Paralysis Overview
There are many possible causes of paralysis or hind limb weakness in the rabbit, including vertebral spondylosis and trauma, parasites, Encephalitozoon cuniculi, raccoon roundworm, Baylisascaris procyonis, strokes, infections, neoplasia (cancer) and systemic disease. Please click on any of the links and read a detailed description of each.
A proper diagnosis cannot be reached without some investigative work. Some of the conditions are treatable and others are not. One of the most important parts of the investigative work of the veterinarian is the history. This is where you can help tremendously by being observant and even taking notes so you remember the details of your pet’s illness or unusual behavior. This information is invaluable in determining a diagnosis, a treatment regimen and ultimately the prognosis for your pet.
